We brew craft beer and craft coffee!  Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen and the Brewers Inn is located in Keewatin, with a coffee house, dining service, summer, outdoor patio, and boutique Inn. Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is committed to sustainable practices, business growth and development, and building external and internal alliances to support local, fresh, and handcrafted goods and services.  We are young and we are growing! Morning Baker and Line Cook

What This Job Entails:

The Morning Baker and Line Cook is a part time seasonal position that can lead to full time hours.  You would be a key member of the associate team at Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen and as such the ideal candidate is eager to grow with the company, making an investment both personally and professionally. The Morning Baker and Line Cook will work at Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen and will be responsible for duties including but not limited to:
  • Dedicated to quality: inspect and test all food before it is served
  • In-depth knowledge of food processing and safety
  • Ability to bake common  coffee shop goods and pastries
  • Knowledge of common breakfast items
  • Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple tickets
  • Able to adhere to the precise instructions of the head chef
  • Time management
  • Maintain a clean and safe station
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment
  • Prepare and stock the day’s ingredients for each station
  • Knowledge of the proper use of various cooking utensils
  • Restock and organize inventory
  • Assist staff in cleaning the kitchen and utensils

Morning Baker and Line Cook Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous baking experience in a professional setting
  • 1-2 years of line cook experience in the breakfast capacity
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel.
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Must be able to follow printed recipes and plate specifications
  • Must maintain personal hygiene in accordance to Health Department standards for Food Service Employees.
  • Culinary schooling would be considered an asset
  • Willing to provide further training for a suitable candidate

Successful Candidate May Expect:

  • Start date May 1st 2018 and End date September 5th 2018 (employment can start earlier and be extended for the right candidate)
  • Starting wage is commensurate with experience

 

 

 

Dishwasher and Kitchen Help

What This Job Entails:

The Dish Washer and Kitchen Help is a part time seasonal position that could lead to full time hours.  Flexible hours and weekend availability needed. Starting wage $13.15 – $14.00 per hour plus back of house tip pool.
Dish washer reports to Kitchen Manager.  Duties listed below are the minimum requirements, other tasks maybe asked of you.  Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Load, run, unload, and clean dish machine
  • Keep the dish machine clean and report any functional or mechanical problems immediately
  • Monitor dish machine chemicals and water temperature
  • Wash and store tableware and kitchenware
  • Keep dish area organized
  • Bag and haul dish room trash, and cardboard to dumpster at designated times
  • Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss
  • Maintain adequate levels of detergents and cleaning supplies
  • Clean food prep and production areas as needed by Executive Chef
  • General cleaning of kitchen and surrounding areas as needed
  • Light prep, and organization as needed

Successful Candidate May Expect:

  • Start date May 1st 2018 and End date September 5th 2018 (employment can be extended for the right candidate)
  • Previous kitchen experience would be required an asset

 

 

Server, Bartender and Barista

What This Job Entails:

The Server, Bartender and Barista position is a part time seasonal job that could lead to full time hours.  Flexible hours and weekend availability needed. Starting wage $12.20 – $14.00 per hour plus tips.
Servers, Bartenders and Barista’s report to the Broken Paddle management team. Duties listed below are the minimum requirements, other tasks maybe asked of you.  Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
  • 
Provide detailed information of menu items
  • Suggest daily specials and give beer, cocktail and coffee knowledge
  • 
Serve welcome drinks and take orders
  • 
Repeat orders to ensure accuracy
  • Relay orders to the kitchen and ensure that all orders are delivered on time
  • Ensure the accuracy and quantity of every order
  • Serve food as it arrives and refill glasses
  • Offer desserts and drinks to patrons
  • 
Clean tables and dining areas including counters
  • Deliver food items to tables in a professional and timely manner
  • 
Ensure that food presentation is up to the mark
  • 
Maintain appropriate stock levels
  • Provide customers with checks and take payments
  • Attempt to up-sell food and beverage items
  • Thank customers as they leave
  • Clear tables and clean table top

Successful Candidate May Expect:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Smart serve required
  • Previous barista background would be considered an asset

Coffee and Goods Sales Position

Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is a locally owned and operated company located in a repurposed historic fire hall in downtown Kenora. This includes a Brewhouse, Taproom & Eatery, Retail Store, Online Shop, and Commercial Sales – all under one roof. Just down the lake in Keewatin, is Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen. We brew craft beer and craft coffee! Brewco is a meeting place, with a very local flavor 8 months of the year and the other 4 months (May-August), it is bursting at the seams with both local and visitor patrons alike.We are in search of a Coffee, and Goods Sales position for the NWO region to learn and help grow with a young and dynamic company. Coffee and Goods Sales position is a full time permanent position and will report to the Sales Manager. Salary will be commensurate with experience plus commission. Targets for the Inn and Coffee to start and as the company grows wholesale products target will be set. Opportunity for 15,000-20,000 commission for Inn sales alone.
The ideal candidate will assist with the day to day sales of Brewers Inn rooms, Broken Paddle Coffee Roastery & Kitchen coffee, whole sale products manufactured by Lake of the Woods Brewing Company and any other needs of the Sales Team at Lake of the Woods Brewing Company. If you are energetic, a self-starter and enthusiastic about craft beer and craft coffee this might be the ideal opportunity for you!

Job Roles and Responsibilities

Brewers Inn

  • Increase occupancy levels in Brewers Inn year round
  • Create partnerships with companies to create group rates
  • Promote Brewers Inn as a premier accommodation in Kenora, Ontario

Coffee and Wholesale Product Sales

  • Increase coffee sales and wholesale product sales through our online website
  • Reach out to restaurants and cafes in NWO to serve our coffee/products
  • Reach out to grocery stores, gift shops and other venues to sell our coffee/products
  • Ensure commercial sales locations are merchandised with fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean and well stocked by front-facing, checking codes, rotating, and removing out-of-date products.
  • Assist with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean, and appealing.
  • Identify opportunities
  • Develop interesting new ways to engage with public
  • Merchandiser participates in local events including Sponsored events, Festivals and on-premise partner events
  • Works directly with sales advocates to engage the public
  • Social media

What you will bring to this role?

  • Minimum 2-3 years in a direct sales role
  • Previous merchandising experience would be considered an asset
  • Position has opportunity to work remotely outside of Kenora
  • Occasional regional travel
  • Evening and weekend availability required
  • High energy, positive personality
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Strong communications skills, team player attitude, and task-oriented.
